Artisans of Block Island

Our island attracts artisans, musicians, poets and creative types to its sandy shores. Something about the sea and salt air and all that nature that inspires creativity. Beautiful and unique products are crafted and sold through artist's markets, the farmer's market, galleries and boutiques. The shape of the island lends itself to souvenirs and our artists do really well with using that shape as a design for their craft.

We'll be adding artists to this budding section of our website so check our blog before you come to see what's new.

Are You an Island Artist?

Block Island is a tiny island off the coasts of RI, CT and NY. Part of Rhode Island, this New England town has only 1,000 year round residents. In summer population swells to over 20,000. Artists love the island for its oscillating chaos and solitude, its natural beauty, history and relaxed atmosphere. There are no malls or convenience stores. Almost everything closes in the winter, leaving islanders to make their own fun....and dinner. There's no commuting and very few 9 to 5 work schedules. People really do hibernate in winter. Perfect for the creative and make your own fun types, the island attracts an eclectic mix of residents that call BI their home.
