Fishing Block Island: A dream come true for any angler or aspiring fisherman looking for a great charter fishing trip. Island waters are home to many varieties of fish. Inshore trips bring up striped bass, fluke, bluefish, tautog, bonito, little tunney, sea bass and scup. Offshore trips with the big boys go for tuna, marlin and shark.
There are several reputable charter boats on Block Island - all licensed boat captains with excellent fishing skills. Get your clamming License at the Town Hall and dig yourself a raw bar of little neck, quahogs, steamers and oysters. There are a few main spots usually open in summer, check out Andy's Way. During the off season the entire pond usually opens up. Check the newspaper or Town Hall.
A recommended first time trip that is perfect for families is an inshore trip for bottom fish. You stay close to shore and the odds are in favor of hooking up often. Bottom fishing Block Island you may expect to catch fluke, scup and maybe some bluefish. Abundant and fairly easy to hook, you will be almost guaranteed a tight line. You may also request a shorter trip for bottom fishing. Expect to pay around $100-$150/hour for any custom trip for up to 6 people. If your young angler is an aspiring rodman, go for the striped bass trip, usually a minimum of 1/2 Day or 4 Hours.
