Fishing Block Island: A dream come true for any Angler

Charter Fishing Trips

Island waters are home to many varieties of fish. Inshore fishing for Striped Bass, Fluke, Bluefish, Tautog, Bonito, Little Tunney, Sea Bass and Scup. Offshore fish with the big boys going for Tuna, Marlin and Shark.

There are several reputable Charter Boats on Block Island. All Licensed Boat Captains with excellent Fishing Skills. You'll find their boats lined up at the Old Harbor Town Dock, right next to Ballard's. Look for Captain Matt King of Hula Charters, Captain Bill Gould of G. Willie. Makit, Captain Eric Gustasfun of Linesider Charters

Surfcasting or Flyfishing

There are several sweet spots around the island. If you're a novice angler or don't know where to go you may hire a local guide.

Shell Fishing

Get your clamming License at the Town Hall and dig yourself a raw bar of Little Neck, Quahogs and Steamers.

Take the Kids Fishing

A recommended first time fishing trip and great for kids is an inshore trip bottom fishing. Why? You are close to shore in case the seas are too rough for the stomach and the odds are in favor of hooking up often. Bottom fishing you can catch Fluke and Scup. You may also request a shorter trip for Bottom Fishing.

If your young angler is an aspiring rodman, go for the Striped Bass trip, usually a minimum of 1/2 Day or 4 Hours.
