Music, Night Life, Entertainment

music, band, bands, entertainment

Block Island Summer is rich with Music. During the seasonal months, live entertainment is everywhere. Two Night Clubs sit just at the edge of Town.

Captain Nick's Rock & Roll Bar has been serving up its brand of Rock, Cover Bands and Tribute Bands for years. Each afternoon you'll usually find a local troubadour on the deck. It can be a fun time with the family just before dusk to catch something acoustic and have a bite to eat. After Dark, it's 21 and over only and you can catch a Band or a D.J. inside the club. Monday night is Disco Night. Locals and Summer Workers love to dress up and get their groove on.

Almost kitty corner from 'Nick's' is McGovern's Yellow Kittens. The serve Mexican Food all day on their deck before the whole place turns into a night club. Sundays is Reggae, usually a good live band or D.J. Libre.

Next to Captain Nick's is a place called the Albion Pub. The Albion has the live stuff several nights a week. Being a "Local's" hangout the Bands and D.J.'s here are local as well.

On the other side of Town, down by the Ferry Dock is Ballard's. They have an outdoor stage for their afternoon Rock Bands, usually a twenty-something crowd here. Indoors you might find a guitarist or piano player in the early evenings.

Right smack in Town is the National Hotel. Its impressive wraparound porch seems to almost breath in and out, busting at the wooden seems with boisterous music, people and sing-a-longs.

Over in New Harbor at Payne's Dock is Mohagany Shoals, a tiny bar at the end of the dock. Come here to enjoy the celtic ramblings of Walter as he sings and tells stories to the crowd.

Blues on the Beach happens usually on a Thursday. Check with the Chamber of Commerce for Bands and Times. It's a great free concert for the whole family, at Dusk on Town Beach.

Every year since 2001, resident Musician and D.J. Marc Scortino has brought The Annual Block Island Music Festival, a week long extravaganza with 48 Bands, all Original, unsigned acts from all over the Country. For this year's lineup and details, Click Here.
