A Shore Dinner is a meal consisting of freshly caught seafood.
Block Island waters produce some of the finest lobster in North America. Though not as popular a vocation as in earlier times, there is still see a small fleet of lobster boats working out of old harbor and even more working out of Point Judith, RI.
If you are interested in picking up some lobster to cook yourself, head down to old harbor between five and five thirty p.m. to buy right off the boat. Finn's restaurant has a small fish market.
This traditional plate dates back to the late 1800’s when oarsmen, now know as guides, would row passengers in their skiffs to and from fishing grounds. Stopping midday at an island they would cook up the morning’s catch.
An updated version of this dinner is what we now call a lobster bake. Lobster, fish, steamers and clams along with some juicy steaks can be grilled at your rental house and served up catering style, or dropped off ready to serve to your party.
